MEC readjusts teacher salary; floor goes to R$ 4.4 thousand – 01/17/2023 – Education

The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, announced this Monday (16) a readjustment in the salary floor for teachers to R$ 4,420.55 – an increase of almost 15%. Before, the starting salary was R$ 3,845.63.

The readjustment had been announced in an interministerial ordinance in the last days of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government and has now been confirmed. Camilo posted a photo on social media signing an ordinance that establishes the new value. The information was published in the Official Gazette of this Tuesday (17).

“The appreciation of our Education professionals is a determining factor for the growth of our country”, he wrote.

Update happens in January

The CNTE (National Confederation of Workers in Education) published at the end of last week a note demanding the readjustment in the floor. According to representatives of the category, the amount should be paid from the publication of the December ordinance – but, traditionally, states and municipalities only follow the readjustment after an announcement by the MEC. “As we are already in the second half of January, we need to gain agility in terms of announcement to break the resistance of these bad payers and strengthen the fight of our unions”, said the president of the CNTE, Heleno Araújo.
