The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, informed that the national minimum wage for teachers will rise from R$3,845.63 to R$4,420.55 in 2023. The new value corresponds to an increase of 14.95%. Defined by the federal government, the amount will be paid to basic education teachers in the public school system by states and municipalities. The announcement was made on social media on Monday night (16).
“Announcement to our professors that I signed an ordinance establishing the new Teaching Level 2023: BRL 4,420.55. The floor for 2022 was BRL 3,845.63. The appreciation of our education professionals is a determining factor for the growth of our country”, said the minister.
The Teaching Floor Law (Law 11,738/2008) determines that the minimum remuneration of teachers must be updated every year, in January, at the same percentage of growth of the national minimum cost per student, in the initial years of elementary education, used in Basic Education Development Maintenance Fund and the appreciation of Education Professionals (Fundeb).
Due to this criterion and the Novo Fundeb, the increase in the national base for teachers was 33.24% in 2022, under the management of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). At that time, the national minimum wage rose from R$2,886 to R$3,845.
