The chief minister of the Presidency’s Secretariat for Social Communication (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, said that his biggest challenge at the head of the portfolio is to recover Secom as a “truth transmitter” and a reliable source of information. The declarations made this Tuesday (17) in an interview for the Brazilian Mail. According to him, the ideological political vision of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) dominated the body in the last four years.

“The first challenge we need in Brazil is to recover the government as the great disseminator of truth. What have we seen in this last period? Government communication captured by the ideological political vision of those who were here, and this discredited the government as a respected source of credibility”, declared Pimenta, giving as an example the vaccination campaigns in the country that, according to him, were abandoned during the Bolsonaro administration.

The minister also returned to defend the regulation of the media in the country, stating that this is not about censorship. “The whole world today discusses the changes in technology and the way in which democracy and the States should organize themselves. The European Union, for three years, had this discussion, recently, it published some resolutions. The United States has had a very intense debate about that “, he said. ” There is no censorship. Only those who don’t understand the dimension and importance of this debate are trying to reduce and take the focus off what we are actually wanting to debate and discuss “, he said.
