MEC admits failure to publish Sisu provisional results

The Ministry of Education (MEC) admitted this Friday (2) the improper disclosure of provisional results from the Unified Selection System (Sisu). In a press release, the ministry reported that provisional results were available for 25 minutes on the morning of January 30th. According to the ministry, the improper disclosure is under investigation.

“What happened was an improper disclosure of provisional results, not yet approved, for 25 minutes on the morning of January 30th. The incident is being rigorously investigated,”

says a note from the MEC.

Still in the note, the MEC says that “the system is safe and the official results are not modified”. The ministry states that candidates not selected in the regular call can join the waiting list until February 7th. The student must express interest.

On January 30th, Agência Brasil announced the release of the results, based on information available on the Sisu website. Minutes later, the report was contacted by the MEC’s ​​press office, who stated that the results were not yet available. That was when this information was no longer available.

Frustration

The undue disclosure caused frustration among several students across the country. On social media, students report that when they accessed the Sisu page on January 30th, they saw that they had been approved for places at universities and public higher education institutions.

But the next day, when the MEC announced the official release of the results, the candidates said they had “lost” the place, and their names did not appear on the list of those approved in the first call. They classify the situation as the end of a dream and frustration. Some students also reported episodes of anxiety.

This was the case of Cinthia Isabelly, 18 years old, a public school student in Natal (RN). According to her, around 9:30 am on January 30th, her registration appeared as selected for a place in the Pedagogy course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), in 13th place. When accessing the Sisu website, at 1 pm, the result was unavailable.

After receiving news that the release had been postponed and no longer being able to access the list, the young woman says she felt quite anxious.

On January 31st, the student accessed the results and her name was no longer on the list of those selected. “My only reaction was to cry, cry. I had my life thrown in the trash.”

The National Union of Students (UNE) created a page this Friday (2) to receive complaints and map the number of cases. Within an hour, they had already received 50 reports, according to the director of Universities at UNE, Clara Maria.

Based on this mapping, the institution intends to ask the MEC for clarification and take future measures, including legal ones.

“We saw a disorganization of Inep [Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira, responsável pela aplicação do Enem]. We still have no idea of ​​the damage. What you cannot do is play with students’ dreams”,

said in an interview.

On the morning of January 30th, students reported having consulted the Sisu page and saw that they had been approved for places at public universities in the first call of 2024.

In the late afternoon of January 31st, the MEC released the definitive results of those selected in the first call.

From then on, candidates began to say, on social media, that their names were not on the list of approved candidates, as had happened the previous day, January 30th.

In an official note released this Friday (2), the ministry admitted that “there was an improper disclosure of provisional results, not yet approved, for 25 minutes on the morning of January 30th. The incident is being rigorously investigated.” The ministry emphasizes that the official results will not be changed. Students not selected in the first call can join the waiting list until February 7th. The list is valid for the entire year.

How Sisu works

Sisu is an electronic system managed by the MEC for vacancies offered by public higher education institutions throughout Brazil. The system selects students based on the average grade of the National High School Exam (Enem) up to the limit of vacancies available, by course and type of competition, according to the choices of registered candidates and the socioeconomic profile for Quota Law.

More than 2 million students compete for 264,360 places, distributed across 6,827 undergraduate courses among the 127 higher education institutions participating in the program.
