The MDB and the Ulysses Guimarães Foundation, linked to the party, released a note in which they are against a possible reversal of the secondary education reform.
“The idea of revoking the New Secondary School is unacceptable. It is defended only by a few who are sustained by slogans, in the search for the old and sterile ideological battles that build nothing”, says the text.
The education reform was implemented during the government of President Michel Temer (MDB) in 2017, and is considered by him as one of his most important legacies.
“The New Secondary School proposed is a step forward. It points to an increase in the students’ workload and to the diversification of their training”, says the joint document.
According to the party, “those who defend the repeal have used disinformation to influence the public debate around the issue”. The pressure against the reform came mainly from sectors linked to the PT and left-wing unions.
This week, the Minister of Education, PT Camilo Santana, announced a pause in the implementation of the reform for 60 days, although he did not announce its cancellation. The measure was criticized by state secretaries of the area.
According to the MDB and the Foundation, the reform’s problems should not be a reason for it to be unfeasible. “[Os opositores da reforma] They take punctual and shallow examples to make the rule of what has been done in the implementation”, he says.
Despite the critical tone, the MDB, which is part of the base of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government, praises the minister for the initiative to resume the discussion of the subject.
