Discrimination

The main objective of the legislation is to protect single mothers from discrimination in the professional field due to their marital status.

Manaus (AM) – The State of Amazonas sanctioned the law, authored by state deputy Mayra Dias (Avante), which protects single mothers against discrimination in the work environment, in bodies and entities of direct and indirect administration. Rule number 6,378, dated August 2, 2023, is Mayra’s seventh law to be enacted this year.

The main objective of the legislation is to protect single mothers from discrimination in the professional field due to their marital status. It prohibits discriminatory acts in hiring, promotion, training and in all aspects of employment, including compensation, benefits and working conditions. Mayra Dias’ law also provides for sanctions and fines for companies that practice any type of discrimination, following the guidelines of labor legislation.

The deputy understands that single mothers often face discrimination in the workplace, due to the responsibility of raising their children alone. This can limit your employment opportunities and career advancement.

“This law aims to protect against discrimination at work by ensuring that they have access to equal and fair opportunities. The creation of flexible work policies and the prohibition of discrimination in the workplace are essential measures to guarantee equal opportunities for these mothers and allow them to reconcile their family and professional responsibilities”

said Mayra Dias.

In addition, the norm determines that the Executive Branch promote awareness campaigns on the importance of protection against discrimination against single mothers in the workplace.
