Two people involved in the audio leak have already been identified by the Federal Police

Manaus (AM) – The Mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, gave an interview to journalists, this Friday morning (22), in front of the Federal Police headquarters, where he registered a complaint after being the target of slanderous audio that began to circulate on social media during the Thursday (21). In the file, David allegedly cursed municipal teachers, calling them ‘bums’ for demanding payment from the Fund for the Maintenance and Development of Basic Education and the Valorization of Education Professionals (Fundeb).

The content went viral late Thursday night, but according to the Mayor, he only found out about the audio on Friday morning, even though he didn’t give it much importance at first.

“By the time I received it, in the early hours of the morning, it was already on my cell phone, and at least 20 people had forwarded it to me. In fact, I didn’t think much of it, I had to go to a maternity ward, and at the maternity ward people were already commenting on it. Later, I went to Colônia Antônio Aleixo, where I delivered houses, and there I also noticed. So, so that this wouldn’t take on a greater dimension, on my return from Colônia Antônio Aleixo I already called the PF superintendency and here I am registering so that measures can be taken”

According to the head of the municipal Executive, this is a new fact that enters the political ingredient in relation to artificial intelligence. He also stated that he would never attack teachers, professionals who deserve admiration and respect.

“They try to put it as if I were talking to teachers. Everyone knows about my connection with teachers and now we have had a problem regarding the transfer of the allowance, due to the drop in revenue from Fundeb (Fund for the Maintenance and Development of Basic Education and for the Valorization of Education Professionals). And exactly taking advantage of this issue, this speech appears to put me on a collision course with the teachers for whom I have complete respect. In fact, I was the one who initiated the payment of bonuses to teachers when I was interim governor in 2017. So, out of the respect and admiration I have for teachers, we are here to clarify, identify and punish the perpetrators of this crime”,

said the mayor.

According to the municipal authority, the leaked file is a deep fake, that is, false content created through Artificial Intelligence (AI). The advancement of AI even concerns the Federal Supreme Court, where recently, Minister Alexandre de Moraes defended the regulation of artificial intelligence for the 2024 elections.

“There are programs that simulate people’s voices and this causes problems. It is something new, which was even said by the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, President of the TSE, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who has been working on this and we need to contain it. I believe this is one of the first cases of crimes committed in relation to Artificial Intelligence by a capital mayor. This is a type of crime that will not go unpunished, [vamos] identifying who created it, who is responsible for the creation, for the dissemination, this is all part of a process that will be carried out by the PF and that will serve as an example so that others do not happen”

At the PF headquarters, expert Rafael stated that investigations have already begun in a preliminary manner and that every crime committed on the internet leaves traces. According to the professional, the leaked audio is the result of pieces of audio that already exist, but were assembled to tarnish the image of the criminal group’s target.

“We only carried out a preliminary analysis, we will deepen the investigations until we reach the origin. At the outset, we can state very categorically that this is editing, including using other audios that circulate on the internet to be able to carry out these simulations. Everything that happens on the internet leaves this mapping, these addresses and we can trace it back to the origin.”

The Federal Police Superintendence in Amazonas, Umberto Ramos, has already identified two people involved with the audio leak, and informed that, soon, the accused will be interviewed at the institution’s headquarters. As penalties, those responsible will be accused of defamation, electoral slander, subject to penalties and fines.

“Our objective is that with this action we promote a measure to discontinue this type of initiative, making it clear that there is no anonymity on the internet and making it clear that any type of montage, Fake News, misuse of artificial intelligence with the aim election, will be investigated and its perpetrators will be identified and punished”,
