According to the MPAM, the operation affects municipal authorities, family members, businessmen and public agents involved in crimes against the public administration, fraud in bidding crimes and money laundering.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Amazonas (MPAM), through the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco), carried out Operation Garrote this Tuesday (23), in Borba, in the interior of Amazonas. Among the targets are the mayor of the municipality, Simão Peixoto, the first lady, Aldine Mirella, businessmen and public agents suspected of crimes against the public administration.
According to the MPAM, the action aims to dismantle a criminal organization suspected of diverting public resources in the municipality. In total, 11 preventive arrest warrants, 28 house search warrants, 28 personal search warrants and 28 vehicle search warrants were fulfilled, totaling 95 precautionary measures.
Also according to the MPAM, the operation affects municipal authorities, family members, businessmen and public agents involved in crimes against the public administration, fraud in bidding crimes and money laundering. The MPAM seeks reimbursement from the public coffers and the removal of the investigated public agents from their duties.
There is no confirmation that the operation is related to the arrest of the mayor in March of this year, when Simão was preventively arrested for the crimes of threat, contempt and defamation, but was released on provisional release two years later.
