Manaus (AM) – The mayor of Borba, Simão Peixoto, appealed, this Sunday (4), to the Federal Supreme Court (STF), in search of freedom. After having the request for habeas corpus denied, on Thursday (1st), by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), he made a new request, this time, to the STF.
Suspected of being part of a criminal organization that diverted public resources from Borba, the mayor was arrested on May 29.
To the STJ, Peixoto asked for the suspension of the removal from the city hall and the revocation of preventive detention. After having the requests denied, he appealed to the last legal instance in Brazil.
In March, the mayor had already been arrested for threatening a Borba councilwoman, but was granted provisional release by the STF.
