In January, President Lula (PT) extinguished the regional office of the Presidency of the Republic in Rio de Janeiro created by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The space had been created by Bolsonaro in his first week in office, but was never used by the former president. The unit had seven full servers that received, in total, R$ 2.3 million between 2019 and 2022.
The information about the extinction of space was published by the newspaper O Globo and confirmed by Sheet.
According to a decree signed by Bolsonaro, the cabinet’s mission was to provide administrative and operational support to the president, ministers, special secretaries and members of the president’s personal cabinet in the city.
A report by the newspaper O Globo from April of last year, however, found that the office was empty. Officials at the Ministry of Finance’s regional headquarters, where it was located, said they never saw the president or ministers dispatching from there.
In addition to spending on salaries, maintaining the space consumed R$558,000 over the four years.
At the end of last year, the regional office had only five servants. One of them was reused in the office of Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB).
A Sheet tried to contact Bolsonaro, but still got no response.
