Mayor of a city in Colombia makes a replica of the plane that crashed with the Chapecoense team

Replica, made of aluminum, was part of the city’s Christmas decoration
The mayor of La Union, a city neighboring Medellín, recreated the plane from the tragedy with the Chapecoense squad, in 2016. The replica, made of aluminum, was part of the city’s Christmas decoration and would be a way of “honoring” the 71 people killed in the tragic accident.
The accident completed seven years on Tuesday (28), and the city’s mayor, Edgar Osorio, ordered the removal of the replica and recanted, after receiving harsh criticism from the population.
“The installation of a replica of the plane, referencing the almost seven-year tragedy that marked our community, generated diverse reactions on social media. Therefore, we made the decision to remove it from the main park. The Christmas decorations were never intended to hurt people’s sensibilities, but we understand the discomfort they caused and therefore we apologize and will proceed with their removal,”
said the mayor of La Union.
Only six people survived the accident, three of them Chapecoense players. The crash of LaMia Flight 2933 was said to have occurred due to the plane’s lack of fuel.
