“Racists will never pass”, says Igor Paixão after being called a ‘descendant of slaves’ by a Spanish newspaper – News of Brazil

The Amapá striker Igor Paixão, who plays for Feyenoord, in the Netherlands, spoke out this Tuesday (29) on his Instagram after being called a “descendant of slaves” in a report written by the Spanish newspaper As.
On Monday (28), the Spanish newspaper published a report about the player, as a preview of the duel between Feyenoord and Atlético de Madrid, in the Champions League, with the title: “Igor Paixão, the descendant of slaves who threatens Atleti”.
In the article, the origin of Paixão was told, which has roots in the Curiaú quilombo, in Macapá. The title of the report ended up having a negative impact around the world.
On his Instagram, Igor Paixão wrote a long text and states that “There is only one word to describe this: racism”. So far, ‘As’ has not taken a position on the case or made any apology to the Amapá native.
Igor was sold by Coritiba to Feyenoord last year, Igor is in his 2nd season in Dutch football. In the current season, he has 3 goals and 3 assists in 19 matches for the Dutch team.

They always disguise themselves. Through elegant words, money, ways of behaving and even the positions they occupy.
They are subtle. They don’t always let all the prejudice they carry for generations and generations show.
They are smart. Because most of the time they get away with committing one of the most heinous crimes in history: racism.
But they don’t always disguise it, they aren’t always subtle and they aren’t always smart. Sometimes they are explicit and brazen, the result of years and years of impunity. And they wait for the right moment to distill the prejudice they carry within themselves.
This week, it was the turn of Jornal AS, from the country where my professional, life and color companion, Vinicius Junior, plays, who suffers daily from the hatred of those who simply have not learned to overcome an evil that should never have existed, but who has been a criminal for so long.
When talking about my trajectory, right in the title, “not-so-veiled” racism: the descendant of slaves.
If only because of my humble reality, the same as many of my companions. It was because of my color, the same as most of the world. Whether it was because of my way of being or the “threat” I bring to them. Whatever it was, there is only one word to describe it: racism.
If we are descendants of slaves, we are so because we were enslaved. They robbed us of our homes, our families, our free will and our lives. But today we are no longer.
We are free to think, speak and be what we want, and no one will steal that from us.
Subtle, as they are, they will say that “I misunderstood the context”, and they will disguise it by “taking the text down”, and in a clever way they will continue to do so, with others, and will make me a target.
But everything is fine. Because together we are stronger. We will always be stronger. And we will never, ever again walk alone.
Racists will never pass!
