Brazilian Marcus D’Almeida, 25, won, in the early hours of this Monday (11), the archery World Cup final, held in the city of Hermosillo, Mexico.
The carioca, who is number one in the world rankings, beat Lee Woo Seok, from South Korea, by a score of 6 to 4. And he celebrated the title that in the sport is only second in importance to the World Cup and the Games Olympics.
The tournament is made up of four preliminary stages that serve as qualifiers for the final competition, which brings together the eight best archers in the world. D’Almeida had already won the stage held in Shanghai, China, in May this year.
By beating the South Korean in the final, the Brazilian returned the defeat he had suffered in the World Cup stage played a month ago, in Paris.
“I’m not thinking about revenge. Every moment is special and I need to make the most of it,” said D’Almeida after the victory.
To reach the final in the Mexican city, the Brazilian defeated Dan Olaru, from Moldova, 6-2, and the Italian Mauro Nespoli, Olympic runner-up, 6-5.
Bronze in the World Cup, in August, D’Almeida is qualified to compete in the Paris Olympic Games, in 2024. In the last edition of the Games, held in 2021, in Tokyo, he came in ninth place, the best result for a Brazilian in history Olympic archery.
The athlete also won the silver medal in the Archery World Championship in 2021, losing the final to South Korean Kim Woo-jin.
