Furthermore, FIFA extended the suspension of players who were punished by national courts to the entire world.
FIFA announced this Monday (11) the ban from football of athletes Ygor Catatau, Matheus Gomes and Gabriel Tota, following a scandal involving the manipulation of football matches in a betting scheme.
Furthermore, the entity extended the suspension of players who were punished by national courts to the entire world. In this case, the hooks assigned by the Public Ministry of Goiás, based on Operation Maximum Penalty, will be applied internationally. Any player who transfers to a new club outside the country will still have to comply with the sanction.
This was the case of Eduardo Bauermann. The former Santos defender moved to Alanyaspor, in Türkiye. However, after this sanction, the player and the Turkish club terminated the contract.
The punishments were applied after an investigation that discovered a manipulation scheme to favor bettors. Players received a stipulated amount of money to purposefully complete certain actions, which would then return the money to the bettors.
The hooks range from 360 days of suspension to a complete ban from the sport. In addition to these punishments, there are also criminal proceedings against athletes. Below is the list:
Ygor Catatau (banned)
Paulo Sérgio (suspended for 600 days)
Gabriel Tota (banned)
Paulo Miranda (720 days)
Fernando Neto (380 days)
Eduardo Bauermann (360 days)
Matheus Gomes (banned)
Mateusinho (600 days)
André Queixo (600 days)
Moraes (720 days)
Kevin Lomónaco (380 days)
