A FIFA announced this Monday (11) the ban of three Brazilian players for involvement in a football results manipulation scheme.
Furthermore, the entity that governs world football extended suspension sentences worldwide for athletes involved in betting scandals in Brazil.
The players Ygor Catatau, Matheus Gomes and Gabriel Tota were banned from professional football by FIFA. The punishments are consequences of Operation Maximum Penalty, by the Public Ministry of Goiás (MP-GO), which discovered a results manipulation scheme in Brazilian football.
Athletes who had been suspended from Brazilian football by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) and moved abroad may also have to serve their sentences outside of Brazil.
This was a request from the CBF itself to FIFA, which announced that punishments involving manipulation of results will apply to all entities affiliated to the entity.
It will be the case of the defender Eduardo Bauermann, who left Santos for Turkish football and is on the list of 11 expanded punishments released by FIFA. Other athletes, such as Alef Mangaex-Coritiba and who is in football in Cyprus, have not yet been mentioned by the entity, which could happen.
Players with extended sentences can still appeal the decision. They can sue the Court of Arbitration for Sport, however, the case is considered robust and the chances of a reversal are minimal.
