He performed late this Friday afternoon (22), at Lollapalooza 2024, and took the opportunity to celebrate his wedding to Luiza Machado. The guiding thread of the presentation was his most recent work, “Iboru”, dedicated to style and whose main theme is religiosity. The scenes with references to terreiros on the screen and the table with a white tablecloth and an image of Saint George set the mood. In “Até Clarear”, right at the beginning of the performance, he evoked his influences such as Zeca Pagodinho and Arlindo Cruz. As well as the following ones, “Fonte que bebo” and “Só que meu samba die”. Marcelo D2 performs at Lollapalooza 2024 Luiz Franco/g1 D2 has never hidden his proximity to samba. He has elements of the style in his rap compositions on Planet Hemp and also in his solo career. Here, however, he does the opposite: he puts rap into his samba songs. The result of this is the union of the atmosphere of traditional samba, from the last century, with the present, with the beats of hip hop. “In Brazil, smoking marijuana is prohibited,” he said from the stage. “But I’m going to take you to Zeca Pagodinho’s backyard, because if I want to smoke there, I’ll smoke there”, he added before showing his version of Zeca’s “Maneiras”. The public caught the party spirit. We’re going to celebrate our wedding here,” he said before singing “Água de rain no mar”, recorded by Beth Carvalho. “Qual é” and the samba “Castelo de um Quarto Só” were a hit that made the crowd dance. At full power, he ended with a devastating version of “Zé do caroço”, before saying goodbye with a recording with an excerpt from “Direito de sambar”.
