Announcement

Princess is undergoing chemotherapy sessions

In an announcement broadcast on social media this Friday (22), Princess Kate Middleton revealed that she has cancer. She is undergoing chemotherapy sessions.

In the 2 minute and 20 second video, Kate said that she underwent surgery. “I needed time to recover from my surgery and begin treatment,” she said.

“We need time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. I need to focus on a full recovery.”

She did not give further details about the illness.

Kate Middleton’s health status was already the subject of strong speculation and even became the subject of conspiracy theories.

Disappearance after surgery

The controversy surrounding Kate Middleton’s condition began in January, when Kensington Palace announced that she had undergone abdominal surgery.

The palace had not previously informed her that she would undergo an operation and also did not give any details about what the procedure was.

After the surgery, the Princess of Wales had to spend 13 days in a London hospital. And, even after being discharged, she was advised by her doctor to remain at home and away from her official schedule until after Easter.

Just last Saturday (16), Kate Middleton was seen in public for the first time since her abdominal surgery, according to the website TMZ, which revealed a video on Monday (18) in which she appears walking smiling alongside William.

Edited photos

Kate Middleton’s disappearance gained more controversial tones after Kensington Palace, amid questions about the princess’s whereabouts, released a photo of her with her children on Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom, on the 10th.

The image, the first officially released by the royal family since Kate’s surgery, was removed from circulation by the main news agencies hours after its release due to suspicions that it had been manipulated and edited.

The following day, Kensington Palace published a statement signed by Kate in which she acknowledged that the image had been manipulated. The Princess of Wales also stated in the note that she edited the photo herself, in which she appears sitting and surrounded by her three children — according to the palace, Prince William took the photo.

“Like many other amateur photographers, I experiment with editing photos from time to time. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photo we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone had a happy Mother’s Day (which in the UK is celebrated on March 10th)”, said Kate, in the statement.

Hours after the photo was released, the American news agency Associated Press announced that it would exclude the photo from its catalog because it had identified signs of manipulation. Two other major agencies, Reuters and France Presse, did the same with the image, which was published on g1.

“(…) The AP later removed the image [de seu catálogo] because upon closer inspection it appeared that the source had manipulated the image in a way that did not meet AP photographic standards. The photo shows an inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte’s left hand.”
