Leader of the federal bench of Amazonas, Omar Aziz, was decisive in including the matter for voting in the House
Brasilia DF) – The term of validity of the tax benefits of the Manaus Free Trade Zone was extended until 2074, thanks to Bill (PL) 2,673/2019, reported and taken to Congress for a vote by Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM). The senator articulated the approval of an urgent request to vote on the matter this Wednesday (20), as the incentives for the free trade areas in the Western Amazon would lose validity on January 1, 2024.
In his report presented to the House, Senator Omar highlights that until then Law No. 9,532 of 1997, amended in the most recent PL, had not been updated to harmonize with the new constitutional deadline. The parliamentarian explained that, although they would continue to be based on the Federal Constitution until 2073, the tax incentives in the Manaus Free Zone would no longer be based on ordinary law at the turn of this year.
“The lack of this update creates legal uncertainty capable of harming economic activities in the Manaus Free Trade Zone, with serious negative impacts on the generation of employment and income, environmental protection and regional development”,
justifies Aziz.
In the text of the proposal, the author of the PL, federal deputy Captain Alberto Neto (PRB-AM), justifies that the benefits to companies that set up in these locations “is a legitimate treatment for goods produced in this region and its relevance can be detected by several biases, including the constitutional one”.
