Pastor Silas Malafaia, leader of the Assembly of God Vitória em Cristo and organizer of the act in defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), was the penultimate to speak at the event held this Sunday (25) on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo.

In an exalted speech in the style of speeches given in his church, he began by criticizing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) recent speeches about Israel. “I want to leave here my repudiation of President Lula, who made Brazil a disgrace throughout the world? His speech does not represent the Brazilian people. [É] the only president of a democratic country who has received praise from murderous Hamas terrorists. What a shame,” he said.

Afterwards, Malafaia stated that he did not go to the event to “attack the Federal Supreme Court, because when you attack an institution, you are against the Republic and the Democratic Rule of Law”, but that he would remember the events to show “the engineering of the evil to want to arrest former president Jair Messias Bolsonaro” and to “destroy the Democratic Rule of Law”.

Defense of Jair Bolsonaro in action in Paulista

Malafaia began his retrospective by citing the demonstration on September 7, 2021, when President Jair Bolsonaro was incited by his supporters to “attack minister Alexandre de Moraes”, but “gave in and appeased”, causing everyone was “amazed”.

Malafaia also cited an episode from 2022, when minister Alexandre de Moraes took over the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and a resolution from the body “against the electoral law gave all power to the minister”. Malafaia also said that even though the then Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, filed a petition with the STF to overturn this resolution, “the STF did not accept it.”

Malafaia also questioned that during the election “they could call Bolsonaro a genocidal, but they could not say that Lula is an ex-convict”. Afterwards, he said that after the election was over, “Bolsonaro didn’t attack anyone” and when the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, questioned the results of the polls in the Superior Electoral Court, he received a “debauchery fine of R$22 million , the PL number”.

Differentiation between left and right by the STF

Questioning the supposed differentiation made by the courts in the treatment of episodes that occurred with the right and the left, Malafaia recalled the fact that, in 2014, when Aécio Neves lost the election, “Alexandre de Moraes’ PSDB” filed “a lawsuit in the TSE questioning the results of the elections and questioning the electronic voting machines”. “You know what happened? Anything. Nothing,” said Malafaia.

Questioning the punishments given to the protesters on January 8th, Malafaia cited facts from history in which PT and MST militants carried out invasions of official Justice and Congress buildings and were not punished.

Among them, the graffiti made in 2014 by the MST on the building of the then president of the STF, minister Cármen Lúcia, by the MST; in the same year, the statement by then deputy Wadih Damous (PT) about “closing the STF”; the 2017 invasion of the National Congress by the PT to overthrow then-president Michel Temer (PMDB); the invasion of the National Congress by the MST in 2006 and the attempted invasion of the STF by the same group in 2014.

“If it weren’t for the courage and blood of the Brasília PM police officers, there would have been carnage. There were 30 police officers injured, eight in serious condition, and no one called it a coup? All protesters,” said Malafaia.

‘Cleriston’s blood on Moraes’ hands’

He also provoked supporters to question facts that were not clarified regarding the invasion carried out in Brasília.

“Why did Lula go out to the squares of Brasília and go to Araraquara? The flood in Araraquara was on December 28th, 10 days before. Was he warned that there was going to be trouble? Another question, where are the videos recorded by government cameras? Where are the videos that are in the possession of Alexandre de Moraes? The people have to know who is behind this naughtiness and chaos”, asked Malafaia.

“The Minister of Justice Flávio Dino watched from the window. Didn’t he do anything? The GSI and Abin informed Lula. Why the head of the GSI, General Gonçalves, why didn’t Alexandre de Moraes have him arrested? Why wasn’t he indicted? He was coup, he was in favor of the coup. This is a shame, people. It’s a shameful narrative”, he added.

Malafaia also stated that “the coup has a weapon” and questioned the fact that “a woman with the Bible and the crucifix, Catholic, who entered the Senate and sat at the president’s table”, was declared “a coup plotter and served 17 years in prison”.

The pastor also mentioned the episode of the death of Cleriston Pereira da Cunha, arrested due to the 8th of January when he went “to see the trouble”. “Sick, the prosecutor asked for his release and Alexandre de Moraes didn’t give it. He died. Cleriston’s blood is in Alexandre de Moraes’ hands and he will report it to God”, said the pastor.

‘Fear of expressing your opinions’

The event organizer stated in his speech that people are afraid to express their opinions and that “the Democratic Rule of Law is in danger”.

“Think about deputies, senators and governors. Stop and think. A Democratic State of Law, like the United States, Germany, France, Italy and so on, no one is afraid to speak in demonstrations. No one is afraid to expose their thoughts on the networks social issues. Look what’s happening in Brazil? Deputies, senators and Brazilians afraid to speak out. What kind of democracy is this?” he asked.

Malafaia ended his speech by stating that the people “are the supreme power of this nation” and cited an excerpt from the Bible that states that “I will not fear what man can do to me”. At the end, he invited those present to sing an excerpt from the anthem of the Independence of Brazil.
