‘Madame Teia’ gets confused when trying to be a different film from the Spider-Man universe; g1 already seen

After an accident in a rescue, she discovers the power to predict the future. When he meets Julia Carpenter (Sydney Sweeney, from “Euphoria”), Mattie Franklin (Celeste O’Connor, from “Ghostbusters”) and Anya Corazón (Isabela Merced, from “Dora and the Lost City”), he discovers that they are targeted by the mysterious Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim, from “Napoleon”). The most attentive viewer will soon realize that certain moments in the plot are not real, but manifestations of Cassandra’s power. The excitement dies down towards the middle of the session. Furthermore, the script written by director SJ Clarkson, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (the duo who wrote “Morbius”) borrows from “The Terminator” to create the villain’s motivation. The reference doesn’t work so well, in addition to mischaracterizing the character’s origins in the comics. The script also presents inconsistencies, with direct “easter eggs” (hidden messages for fans) shy and not very relevant. SJ Clarkson’s direction, in his first blockbuster after a long career on TV, does his best to make everything more intriguing. The English filmmaker has directed episodes of “Game of Thrones”, “Succession”, “Jessica Jones” and “The Defenders”, among other series. With so much experience, she tries to bring a convincing air of mystery to Cassandra’s journey of discovery. The weak script, however, doesn’t help her much. To make matters worse, the visual effects are below expectations for a production of this size. Just look at the scenes in which the villain moves with the quality of a Playstation 2 character. The fantastic four The good female cast stands out despite so many flaws. Dakota Johnson defends her character well and convinces as an unwitting heroine. She has good chemistry with the other actresses and manages to keep the audience’s interest. Sydney Sweeney in ‘Madame Teia’ Disclosure Sydney Sweeney shows that she is an actress with several dramatic resources. She doesn’t do badly raising Julia as a shy, naive teenager. Furthermore, she arouses interest in the action scenes and makes you want to see her in a solo superhero film. The negative point is Tahar Rahim, who never manages to make the villain of “Madame Teia” impactful. In part, the script doesn’t help him. But the actor does not make Ezequiel charismatic or threatening, making him an antagonist of any note. With elements shamelessly copied from films like “Doctor Strange” or “Highlander – The Immortal Warrior” (especially at the end), “Madame Teia” could even be successful and generate sequels. But it needs to improve. The solution is to wait and see if “Kraven – The Hunter”, which should premiere in 2024, manages to break the curse of uninspired derivatives from the Spider-Man universe.
