The emotion of each blow and the vibration of the public made this Saturday afternoon (8), a martial arts show at Complexo do Araxá, in the South Zone of the city. The event held by the Municipality of Macapá was part of the Macapá Summer 2023 sports program.
More than 50 Beach Boxe and Submission athletes participated in the event, which, in addition to awarding medals and belts, also delivered cash prizes to the competitors who won.
There were 18 fights in the 1st edition of the Submission Challenge in the most diverse categories, both in the female and male suits.
Submission is a form of competition and a general term used for martial arts and combat sports that focus on clinching and wrestling. ground in order to obtain a submission through the use of submissions.
Athlete Miguel Santos, 30 years old, fought in the Submission Challenge in the up to 100 Kg category, and talks about the importance of sport and its social role. “This event is important to give visibility to the sport, which frees many children from crime. Bringing these two modalities together in the same place is also a way of integrating athletes.”he pointed out.
A show apart were also the 10 fights of the Beach Boxe modality, which is Boxing in the sand. The 20 participating athletes faced each other and made the modality-loving public vibrate with each blow and knockout. Male and female fighters, in the youth, cadet and elite categories, also took home medals, belts and cash prizes.
Luiza Moreira, 19 years old, has been training Box for 3 years, she won the belt in the elite category and talks about her experience. “It’s amazing to have this opportunity, especially in the women’s box, which is not very prestigious here in Macapá. This belt is a very big achievement for me, it is very gratifying to have this recognition within my city”emphasized the athlete.
The competitors’ relatives were also present in the event’s crowd, as is the case of Nanny Geisa Miranda, 31, who went to honor the fight of her son, Diego Reis, 14 years old, she reports that the sport changed her son’s life. “My son was already practically lost. Today he is my pride, everything I do is for him, for his education”he stated.
The competition started at 4:00 pm and lasted until 8:00 pm, a crowd was present to watch the fights and enjoy the programming. The secretary of Semel, Bruno Igreja was also present, he explains that these modalities are new within the Macapá Summer program.
“It’s the first time that fighting sports are on the agenda, they are athletes from various social projects. We are giving visibility and opportunity to our athletes”, detailed the secretary.
