Macapá City Hall delivers new Deoclides Monteiro Sports Arena – News of Brazil

This Thursday (7), the mayor of Macapá, Dr. Furlan, delivered the new Deoclides Monteiro Sports Arena, located in the Nova Esperança neighborhood, West Zone of the capital. Municipal Secretariat of Works and Urban Infrastructure (Semob) was responsible and supervised the activities.
The services performed in an area of 828 square meters were: application of synthetic grass with drainage channel; fence painting; short walls; renovation of the announcement booth, bleachers and kiosk; various paintings; new paving; tactile floor; revitalization of the bus stop; acquisition of doors and new sanitary ware; landscaping and new playground.
The reform cost R$ 169,240.01 in federal amendment by senator Davi Alcolumbre. The revitalization services in the surrounding area were carried out with resources of R$140,000 from the Municipal Treasury.
The choice of the area’s name was mediated by the Association of Singles and Married People in the Nova Esperança neighborhood. Unanimously, everyone chose the name of the athlete and former defender Deoclides Alcides Monteiro. “Deoclides was the teacher of life. He taught how to play football. He was known and loved by everyone”said the president of the institution, Aldenor Pinto.
The tribute was a surprise. The player’s family discovered the fact days before the inauguration. “I’m so grateful the community remembered him. He was a very good person and an active teacher. He trained many players. The word that sums it up is gratitude and love. He was a fighting and winning man. Our love for him is unconditional and eternal.”said widow Ladi Silva, emotionally.
“Another quality public space for the population. This is one of the hallmarks of our management: delivering great works for children and families, both for the practice of physical activities and for social coexistence. It makes people happy. Each public space delivered represents the advancement of the new Macapá: the city that everyone is proud to live in”pondered the Chief Executive, Dr. Furlan.
After the delivery, family members entered the arena and released white balloons in honor of Deoclides. Later, there was a football game.
Profile of the Honoree
According to the Tribuna Amapaense portal, Deoclides Alcides Monteiro was born in the municipality of Vigia (PA). His first contacts with football were in 1942, when he was a child. He frequented a field near where he lived. A Flamengo fan at heart, Monteiro built a legacy based on teaching football to boys and, consequently, freeing them from mishaps or bad situations.
Known as Parrot, the former defender started his career at Sport Clube. In 1963, he played for Trem Desportivo Clube and also for Santana Sport Clube and Independente. He was Amapá champion in 1968.
Because he had a stable life, his career in the fields ended at the age of 41. He was a physical education teacher and federal public servant. For Deoclides, football was a lesson in origin.
