The president of the Parliamentary Agricultural Front (FPA), federal deputy Pedro Lupion (PP-PR), took action this Monday (13) with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) against the Minister of Agrarian Development (MDA), Paulo Teixeira , for alleged support and incitement to crime for statements about the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST).

In an interview with the newspaper The globe, last Sunday (12), Teixeira stated that the invasions of private properties, by the MST, are a “legitimate instrument of pressure”. The deputy asks the PGR to investigate the minister’s conduct based on the statement. In a statement, the president of the agricultural bench pointed out that the minister’s statements weaken the fundamental right to property, provided for in the Constitution.

“A minister of State stated that the commission of a crime is a legitimate instrument for the implementation of a public policy. His conduct is criminally typical, especially given the constant weakening that has been observed in the right to property,” he said. Land invasions by the MST have increased since the beginning of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) third term.

According to the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA), between 2019 and 2022, during the Bolsonaro government, 62 land invasions were recorded in Brazil. During the Lula government, 61 cases were registered between January and July of 2023 alone.

“A minister of State, responsible for the correct implementation of public agrarian reform policy, cannot, under any circumstances, encourage the commission of a crime and condone such criminal acts”, highlighted Lupion.
