Lula wants revenge against shooting clubs, says deputy – 07/25/2023 – Panel

Chairman of the Chamber’s Public Security Commission, Deputy Sanderson (PL-RS) said that President Lula’s (PT) statements in defense of closing shooting clubs in the country are “a project of revenge” and are not based on technical data to become a government policy.

“He doesn’t know the segment and was pressured by PT militancy, from the left, to put an end to shooting clubs”, said the parliamentarian, who was a shooting athlete and is a former federal police officer. “We see that it is a vindictive, ideological, angry measure, and we cannot tolerate it,” he added.

The deputy claims that, on the return of the parliamentary recess, he will intensify efforts to overturn the decree issued last Friday (21) that creates restrictions on access to weapons in the country.

“There is already a draft legislative decree. We are going to work with all our might so that, at least in the Chamber, Lula’s decree is revoked, even if it is partially revoked, in the articles that we think are very bad.”

Sanderson, who says he would never defend something that was insane, says that the government takes some isolated cases that commit crimes and puts them “in the same package, classifying CACs (hunters, shooters and collectors) as criminals”.

He also says that any bill that seeks to end CACs has no chance of succeeding in Congress. As the Panel showed, PT president Gleisi Hoffmann (PR) wants to present a project to ban shooting clubs and register CACs.

“Zero chance. The PT confuses that base it had in the tax reform. It is the quorum of the [presidente da Câmara, Arthur] Lira, it has nothing to do with PT. The chance of them passing these projects is zero. They have no more than 120 votes. Even benches that today are at the base of the government vote against it.”
