Lula tries a new nod to agribusiness and says that MST no longer needs to invade land

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sent a message to the historic ally of the union movement, the MST, that they no longer need to invade land in the country. It was during the first live “Conversation with the President”, transmitted over the internet, in which he commented on government actions over the last little more than five months.

In one of the excerpts of the transmission, Lula said that he will ask Incra (National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform) to carry out a survey of the number of unproductive properties existing in the country and, based on that, discuss how the land will be used for reform. agrarian.

“It no longer needs to invade land. If INCRA is the one who surveys unproductive land, INCRA should communicate to the government what are the unproductive properties that exist in each Brazilian state and from there we will discuss the occupation of that land. It’s simple. You don’t need noise, you don’t need war. What you need is competence and articulation capacity,” he said.

The speech is seen as a nod to agribusiness, which has been at odds with the president since the election campaign last year. Although the sector has shown itself open to talk, Lula makes dubious statements in which he sometimes supports businessmen and sometimes criticizes them, as federal deputy Pedro Lupion (PP-PR) told the People’s Gazette.

Still during the live, Lula said that he wants to strengthen small and medium-sized properties, agribusiness, and that he will continue to carry out agrarian reform. The speeches against the invasions and in favor of the sector occur in the midst of the works of the MST CPI, which has already started to make calls and investigate actions of the movement.
