Allies of Nunes and Boulos exchange barbs for a project – 06/13/2023 – Panel

Allies of the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), and federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) exchanged barbs over the vote on a project that creates 51 supervisor positions for the municipal education system. Both must face each other in the municipal election next year.

The project was approved, but with votes against by the six members of the PSOL bench. Councilors who support Nunes pointed out the opposition’s inconsistency.

According to Toninho Vespoli, Psolist leader in the House, the vote against was given not because of the creation of positions, which the party claims to support, but because another point of the project changed the transportation allowance that supervisors use to visit schools.

Currently, it is equivalent to 10% of the server’s salary, but would change to a fixed amount of R$ 700 or R$ 1,000. Many employees would end up having loss in that amount.

“There was also a breach of an agreement. We negotiated with the mayor to separate the two issues, but they didn’t keep their word”, says Vespoli.

Leader of the Nunes government in the Chamber, Fábio Riva (PSDB) says that the PSOL vote was an anticipation of the electoral race. “It’s doing opposition by opposition. It’s an important project for the city. The project was applauded by the plenary, only unions booed”.
