President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said, this Wednesday (28), at an event with family farmers at the Planalto Palace, that the “big weapon” that the country needs is “the people with their bellies full”. The comment came after a criticism of former president Jair Bolsonaro, even without mentioning the name of his predecessor.
“You see, unlike other presidents, I am not telling you to buy guns. Because they said it was to buy weapons to defend democracy. The great weapon that we need in this country is people with their bellies full”, stated Lula during the launch of the Crop Plan for Family Farming.
In his speech during the launch, Lula also stated that, with the renewal of the Crop Plan, he hopes that producers will start producing in all Brazilian states. The petista also asked that they use all the resources destined to the program, of R$ 77.7 billion, and put pressure on the government for more money. “Often, those who do not cry are not heard. It is important for you to know that we are starting a new era in the country, something that should never have ended”, he added.
The amount of R$ 77.7 billion represents investment in general actions for the segment, such as public purchases, technical assistance and rural extension, Minimum Price Guarantee Policy for Sociobiodiversity Products (PGPM-Bio), Crop Guarantee and Proagro Mais. Only for the Crop Plan for Family Agriculture (Pronaf) the amount is R$ 71.6 billion.
