TCE recognized advances in transparency, says former secretary of Rodrigo Garcia – 06/28/2023 – Panel

Economist Felipe Salto, Secretary of Finance under the Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB) administration, understands that the TCE (State Court of Auditors) recognized the efforts of the previous government to increase transparency regarding tax benefits.

In session this Wednesday (29), the TCE approved Garcia’s accounts from last year with reservations, criticizing the fact that tax waivers remain confidential.

“The recognition of council members, in general, despite the reservations regarding resignations, is very gratifying for me as a former secretary. I particularly mention the president [Sidney] Beraldo, who made a final speech about our modernizing management at the Treasury Department”, said Salto.

Last week, the TCE postponed the analysis of Garcia’s management accounts, requiring the state to detail the benefits. To comply with the request, the current government, commanded by Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), sent more information, but which was still considered insufficient by the court. Even so, the bills were approved.

The former secretary claims that during his administration he instituted new processes for tax benefits, with two resolutions and the creation of structures to evaluate tax benefits in terms of results.

Governor Rodrigo Garcia accompanied the TCE decision in Lisbon, where he is participating in a legal forum promoted by Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the STF.
