Lula says that 8/1 should never be forgotten – 01/07/2024 – Power

On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the January 8th coup attacks, President Lula (PT) said that the date should never be forgotten in the country. In a statement posted this Sunday (7) on social media, the executive leader called the coup attempt irresponsible.

“We must never forget January 8, 2023. The day that some irresponsible people attempted a coup in this country. But the three Powers stood out and democracy won. And, tomorrow, when one year of this sad episode completes, we will shout out loud and clear: freedom, freedom, spread your wings over us. And long live democracy!”, he wrote.

On that day, in 2023, supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the three Powers in the federal capital. In just a few hours, protesters destroyed public property and vandalized internal areas of the Planalto Palace, National Congress and Federal Supreme Court buildings.

“I think that with what happened on January 8th, and with the response we gave and the response we will give on the 8th, we could be building the possibility of this country living through the 21st century if there is a coup d’état. “, he said in the video posted along with the message.

“We are no different, we are Brazilians, each performing their role, but each one has the commitment that is in the Constitution defined their role. Do not allow the Brazilian people to forget that on January 8, 2023 a group of people irresponsible people decided to carry out a coup in this country”, he added.

As shown by Sheet, this Monday (8) there will be an event called “Unshakable Democracy”, the motto of the campaign launched by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) in response to the acts of January 8. He is expected to bring together around 500 guests at the National Congress, including authorities and representatives of civil society.

According to a preparation document for the event prepared by Palácio do Planalto, in addition to Lula (PT) and the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate, ministers of higher courts, governors, ministers, mayors, members of the diplomatic corps, presidents of state, parliamentarians, mayors and representatives of employer confederations.

Governors who oppose President Lula and are seen as possible candidates for the Palácio do Planalto in 2026 cited justifications such as vacations and travel to rule out going to the event.
