Lula says he will only make ministerial reform with catastrophe – 01/06/2023 – Politics

President Lula (PT) rejected carrying out a ministerial reform because of problems faced in the National Congress and also stated that he never heard requests for ministries from the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).

The statement was given after charges from Lira himself and even from parliamentarians from the allied base about problems with the government’s political articulation with Congress, in addition to complaints that the Planalto is withholding appointments to positions and releasing amendments. In addition, another movement asks for more space for the centrão political bloc in the government.

“It’s not in my mind to carry out the ministerial reform, unless a catastrophe happens that I have to change. But, for now, the team is playing better than Corinthians”, said Lula, after meeting with the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö.

The representative also stated that he did not receive a request from Lira for the ministry, but did not rule out negotiating for the PP to enter the government.

“They didn’t ask and couldn’t ask because the PP is an opposition party and there are people who vote with us. The PT already had a PP minister, the PP had two ministries under Dilma Rousseff. we will evaluate, but until now I have never heard Lira ask for a minister”, he said.

Earlier, Lula had already commented on the victory in the vote on the MP that structures the government. “It was reasonable for the House to vote the way it did,” he said.

This Wednesday, the Chamber of Deputies approved the provisional measure that restructures the Esplanada dos Ministérios, maintaining the basis of the format designed by the Lula government.

The moments leading up to the vote, however, were marked by a lot of pressure from parliamentarians, who opened up their disagreement with the government and said that it would be the “last vote of confidence” for the federal government.

Lira, in particular, had launched a series of criticisms of the government’s articulation.

Shortly before Lula’s speech, Arthur Lira had also given an interview, in which he claimed to have warned the government of the dissatisfaction of parliamentarians with the Executive’s relationship with the House and defended that the PT give space in his ministry to more parties to increase their base of support in Congress.

In an interview with GloboNews this Thursday afternoon (1st), the parliamentarian said that the federal government was willing to set up its parliamentary base by giving ministries to parties that supported him in the campaign, in addition to the MDB, PSD and União Brasil —and defended that it is logical that this alternative can be used to other subtitles in order to increase the base.

“And it is logical that, in a conversation between leaders, part of the political articulation or with the President of the Republic or with the President of the Chamber, that same solution be given to other parties that he wants [para] increase the base. What is wrong with it? What’s different about it? What’s weird about that?”, said Lira.
