On a trip to Portugal this weekend, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said, this Saturday afternoon (22), that he will not interfere in the work of the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) to investigate the acts of 8 of January that should be installed from next Wednesday (26), in the National Congress.
The statement was given after a meeting with the Portuguese president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, during an interview with journalists. Lula was questioned about how the government should act in the works of the CPMI, which was against the opening but became in favor after the disclosure of the images of the internal security circuit of the Planalto Palace, last Wednesday (19) that show members of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) circulating among protesters during the invasion.
For the president, the deputies and senators who will participate in the CPMI are the ones who should dictate the direction of the commission. “I don’t decide the issue of the CPI (sic), it’s up to the National Congress, it decides whenever it wants to decide, whatever time it wants to. The President of the Republic does not vote in the National Congress, I do not vote in the Senate or in the Chamber, the deputies decide, ”he said.
The work of the CPMI should focus mainly on the performance of the GSI for the security of the Palácio do Planalto, due to the images that show the then Minister Marco Edson Gonçalves Dias and other civil and military agents circulating among the invaders.
Changes to the GSI are for after the trip to Europe
Since Wednesday (19), when the images leaked from the secrecy that had been imposed by the GSI, the interim minister Ricardo Cappelli has been having daily meetings with cabinet and military secretaries to make an x-ray of the attributions and possible changes to be made, in addition to of an internal investigation that investigates the performance of the agents on January 8th.
The expectation is that the report that suggests changes in the structure of the GSI will be presented to the president when he returns from his trip to Europe, possibly next week.
“The GSI, which is my responsibility, when I return, I will make the decision that I think is most important for Brazil”, added the president.
There is also the expectation that soon after the trip to Portugal and Spain, Lula will leave for England to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III, scheduled for May 6th.
