Chamber must have three CPIs parallel to the 8/1 attacks – 04/22/2023 – Panel

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), assured party leaders that he will install in the next few days three CPIs (Parliamentary Commissions of Inquiry), which will work together with the CPMI (made up of deputies and senators) that will investigate the January 8 coup acts.

The CPI of Americanas, the first to have signatures collected this year, of the MST and of the manipulation of results in soccer matches in the country must be installed.

The CPI of Americanas was headed by the leader of the PP in the Chamber, André Fufuca (MA), and had the support of 216 deputies. According to the creation requirement, the objective is to investigate, within 120 days, the inconsistencies of BRL 20 billion that were detected in the company’s accounting entries. She must have 27 starters and the same number of substitutes.

The leader of the PSB and the largest block of parties in the Chamber, deputy Felipe Carreras (PE), collected 205 signatures for the creation of a CPI to investigate, for up to 120 days, match-fixing schemes in professional football matches in Brazil . The commission shall consist of 34 members.

In the justification, he mentions the operation of the Public Ministry of Goiás that investigates a group specialized in defrauding the results of Serie B games of the Brazilian Championship. “Football is a passion that moves Brazilian families, but it is also an economic activity that generates jobs. It cannot generate any kind of distrust of the sport’s credibility, competitiveness”, says Carreras.

The MST’s CPI, led by Deputy Lieutenant-Colonel Zucco (Republicanos-RS), seeks to investigate the performance of the Landless Workers Movement group, “its real purpose, as well as its financiers.” It will have 27 starters and 27 substitutes.

The request for creation, which had 172 signatures, was filed in mid-March, a month before recent MST actions in Embrapa areas, on farms and at Incra (National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform) headquarters.

There is also a fourth CPI, that of cryptocurrencies, which also obtained 172 signatures, but is still awaiting Lira’s approval for installation. Protocoled by the leader of Solidariedade, Áureo Ribeiro (RJ), the idea is that it has 32 starters and the same number of substitutes. The objective is to investigate evidence of fraud in the management of cryptocurrencies by financial services companies.

The Chamber’s internal regulations allow for five CPIs to operate in the House at the same time.
