President Lula (PT) said this Thursday (13) that he will not make an early commitment to appoint a woman to the STF (Federal Supreme Court) in place of the current president of the court, Rosa Weber, who will retire in October.
The representative also did not rule out reappointing the current Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, in the post in September, when his mandate at the head of the Public Ministry ends.
Furthermore, Lula stated that he will not ask favors of Cristiano Zanin, who was appointed by him to the Supreme Court and had his name approved by the Senate. The inauguration of the new member of the court should be in August.
“He wasn’t a friend, he was my lawyer. And an extremely capable person, he was chosen because he is a man of the present and the future. He is very studious, dedicated and serious,” praised Lula.
The statements were given in an interview with TV Record. Asked if he will replace Rosa Weber with another woman so as not to have a reduction in female participation in the Supreme, he dodged.
“There is no advance commitment. It could be a woman, it could be a woman, it could be a man, it could be a black man. In other words, it could be. so that Brazil can win”, he said.
Lula was asked if he can keep Aras in the PGR and he did not refute the idea. “I’ve never talked to Aras personally. Possibly I’ll talk because I’m going to talk to other people. I’m going to talk, I’m going to feel, see what people think and at the right time I’ll indicate”, said the president.
