Lula, recovering, goes up and down stairs after surgery and doctors assess discharge today – 10/01/2023 – Power

President Lula (PT) could be discharged this Sunday (1) and spend the night at his official residence, according to the latest medical bulletin released by the Sírio-Libanês hospital, in Brasília, where the PT member is recovering from surgeries carried out on Friday ( 29).

Lula walked, went up and down stairs and spent the night stable. The initial expectation was for an increase on Monday (2) or Tuesday (3). Since Saturday (30), however, the medical team says that the president’s recovery has exceeded expectations.

This Saturday, Lula had his first physiotherapy sessions and was able to walk. The first lady, Rosângela Lula da Silva, known as Janja, keeps him company.

Lula underwent scheduled surgery to treat a problem in the hip region. The medical team decided to take advantage of the fact that the president was anesthetized to perform a second surgery to remove excess skin from his eyelids — a blepharoplasty.

The PT member had been complaining of hip pain since the election period last year. He even stated that he did not perform the procedure immediately after taking office so as not to show weakness and people to think he was “old”.

According to interlocutors at Palácio do Planalto, Lula chose to undergo surgery in the federal capital because he intends to recover at his official residence and return to work as soon as possible. The expectation is that he will leave from Palácio da Alvorada, where he lives, for the next three weeks.
