President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) received this Wednesday (25) the “Más Verde” medal in Montevideo, capital of Uruguay. The award is given in recognition of work in defense of the environment. The tribute was offered by the mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse. Earlier, Lula met with the Uruguayan president, Luis Lacalle Pou.

During his speech at the event, Lula again defended that Brazil has to be generous with allies. “Brazil has to be very generous with its allies. Because it is the continent’s largest economy, the most industrialized, because it holds more scientific and technological knowledge and because it has the largest population, Brazil has to take great care of its relations with friendly countries”, he said.

Lula said that his “relationship as the Brazilian head of state is to treat the head of any state with respect”. After the ceremony, the president greeted supporters and defended the union of Latin America and South America. This afternoon, the Chief Executive will also meet with the former President of Uruguay, Pepe Mujica.
