Lula prioritizes São Bernardo and boosts PT candidate – 08/20/2023 – Panel

Obstinate in reconquering the City Hall of São Bernardo do Campo, President Lula opened the government’s doors to state deputy Luiz Fernando Teixeira (PT), who should be the candidate for municipal succession next year.

This week, Teixeira was in Brasília with Lula, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad and Labor Minister Luiz Marinho, who was mayor of the ABC city from 2009 to 2017. Since then, the municipality has been administered by Orlando Morando (PSDB) .

For Lula, it is a matter of honor to retake the birthplace of the PT. Both he and Luiz Fernando will invest in polarization, labeling Morando a convinced Bolsonarist.

“O [deputado federal] Alex Manente, Marcelo Lima [atual vice-prefeito] and Morando speak ill of the PT all the time instead of making a policy of rapprochement”, said the deputy. Manente, from Cidadania, and Lima, from PSB, are also cited as candidates.

“The president [Lula] loves São Bernardo, keeps his title here and we discussed the importance of having a mayor aligned with the government”, says the PT.

According to Luiz Fernando, Lula, Haddad and Marinho should be in São Bernardo during next year’s campaign, as well as PT ministers Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations), Wellington Dias (Social Development) and Paulo Teixeira (Agrarian Development), who is his brother. “We’re going to have to get a truck [para campanha]”, jokes the deputy.

In conversations with Lula and Márcio França, from Ports and Airports, Luiz Fernando asked for help to make his idea of ​​building an airport for cargo and passengers in the city viable.

“Congonhas is overloaded, we are close to the port of Santos and we are connected to the capital by two important highways”, says the parliamentarian.

In the meeting with Haddad, he stated that he expressed concern about deindustrialization. “I went to ask for support and we had to forward an agenda with city businessmen to talk about the tax reform. Haddad was left to designate a representative or come himself”.
