President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met this Friday morning (8) with presidents of public banks to take stock of the performance of financial institutions in 2023 and present new measures for the year 2024.

The meeting takes place after Lula defended the offer of consigned credit to the working class, in addition to retirees and pensioners. New measures to expand credit, with affordable interest rates, should be announced soon.

“It was a meeting of public bank accounts, accounting balance. We had a positive conclusion”, said the president of Caixa Econômica, Carlos Vieira, after the meeting with journalists.

According to the president of Banco do Brasil, Tarciana Medeiros, the meeting was to “present numbers” and reinforce alignment between all financial institutions. At the end of the meeting, she told journalists that Lula reinforced the need for banks to remain strong, with greater care when granting credits for agribusiness, family farming, Minha Casa Minha Vida and other public policies. However, Tarciana highlighted that there was no resolution on the creation of new lines of credit.

The meeting was attended by the ministers of the Civil House, Rui Costa, of Finance, Fernando Haddad, the president of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Aloizio Mercadante, and the president of Banco da Amazônia, Luiz Claudio Moreira Lessa .
