President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will receive, this Wednesday (8), party leaders, allied parliamentarians and ministers to discuss the advancement of the government’s economic agenda in Congress, at 9:30 am at the Planalto Palace. The meeting with the so-called “Political Council of the Coalition” intends to establish the general lines of the proposals that the Ministry of Finance, mainly, has as priorities for this year, among them tax reform and fiscal adjustment.

Minister Fernando Haddad will be one of the participants and intends to reinforce the need for Congress to approve the projects that will be sent by the executive, among them the provisional measure that establishes the return of the casting vote in the Tax Resources Administration Council (Carf). This item is considered one of the most important in the fiscal adjustment, as it has the potential to yield BRL 50 billion to the public coffers this year alone, plus a permanent inflow of BRL 15 billion a year, according to estimates by the ministry.

Another priority issue is tax reform, for which the Chamber of Deputies has already approved the creation of a working group to analyze projects that are already in the most advanced stages, in particular PEC 45, prepared based on studies by the current special secretary, Bernard App.

Before the meeting with the coalition council, Lula meets with the ministers of the Institutional Relations Secretariat, Alexandre Padilha, and of Social Communication, Rui Pimenta, to align the order and topics of discussions with the allies.

At the end of the day, the president will meet once again with Haddad to discuss issues related to labor and employment policies, with the participation of ministers Luiz Marinho, from the Ministry of Labor, and from the Civil House, Rui Costa.

There is yet another working meeting with the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, and with Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR), federal deputy and national president of the PT.
