Leaders from the government base decided to change their position this Wednesday (19) and support the opening of the CPMI to investigate the attacks on the seats of Powers.

The new posture of President Lula’s allies was taken in the face of the crisis generated by the disclosure of images from the cameras of the internal circuit of the Palácio do Planalto — a fact that caused the resignation of the minister of the GSI (Institutional Security Office), Gonçalves Dias.

The assessment of parliamentarians from the base of the government heard by the Sheet is that Bolsonarist deputies were managing to retell the story of the attacks, in an effort to blame members of the government for acts of vandalism.

Added to this was the understanding that the opening of the CPMI would be inevitable. The opposition gathered support from 194 deputies and 37 senators, and not even the efforts of the government leaders were enough to withdraw the signatures to the request of deputy André Fernandes (PL-CE).

A session of Congress has been called for next week. In it, the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), must authorize the opening of the collegiate that will investigate anti-democratic acts.

The leader of the government in Congress, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP), confirmed the change of position in the Senate plenary.

“We are going to this investigation and we are going to do it with force. From the investigation and commission of inquiry, we understand. We are willing to go there, we are willing to have this investigation. If they are obstructing by this CPMI, listen very clearly: we want the investigation “, Randolf said.

He added: “We were not the perpetrators of January 8th, we are the victims.”

Senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE) gave a speech in line with Randolfe and also defended the CPMI. “We are going, with the CPI, to further reinforce what the Public Ministry, the Federal Police, the STF, that all of us Brazilians and Brazilians have already seen: it was a failed coup attempt, it was an aggression against democracy, it was rather an aggression against Brazilian institutionality and institutional representation of Brazil”, he said.

The change in the government’s posture also considered the new configuration in the Chamber with the formation of two party blocks, which isolated PL and PT.

Despite the fact that the PL is the party with the largest number of parliamentarians in the House, the creation of blocks surpassed the size of the acronym. In practice, if the CPMI is installed, the PL will have fewer seats in the collegiate than the blocks — a fact that could give the government a majority in the investigation commission.
