Lula calls Temer a “coup leader” during visit to Uruguay

Former president says there was no coup in Brazil; for the current president, after the Dilma government, all social conquests were destroyed in seven years

Uruguay – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) characterized, this Wednesday (25), former chief executive Michel Temer as a “coup leader”, during his visit to Montevideo, Uruguay. On the occasion, the PT member participated in a meeting with Uruguayan President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou.

According to Lula, the social legacy left by his government was destroyed in seven years by Temer and Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“Brazil was no longer hungry when I left the Presidency of the Republic and today there are 33 million people going hungry, it means that almost everything we did of social benefit in my country, in 13 years of government, was destroyed in six years, or rather, in seven years; three from the coup leader Michel Temer and four from the Bolsonaro government,” said the petista.

The statement by the Planalto chief comes after the president said that the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff was a coup d’état.

Lula made this statement on Monday (23), on a trip to Argentina for a meeting with President Alberto Fernández. According to him, after the departure of Dilma, the country entered a setback that it had not imagined.

In addition, Lula said that he inherited a “semi-destroyed” country, and stated that he lived the best period in South America in terms of economic and employment growth, but that now we live in a different decade.

“When we left the presidency, Brazil was the 6th economy in the world, we are back now and Brazil is the 13th economy in the world. This is a challenge that does not make me sad, it is a challenge that gives me optimism, gives me courage and forces me to set goals ”she explained.

In a note, former president Michel Temer said that Lula remains on the platform, that “the country was not the victim of any coup” and denied having destroyed PT initiatives.
