Carlos Henrique Menezes Sobral will occupy a position at the Ministry of Tourism

The Lula government appointed, this Tuesday (24), former adviser to Eduardo Cunha (PTB), Carlos Henrique Menezes Sobral, to the second-ranking post at the Ministry of Tourism, the Secretariat for Sustainability, Territorial Development and Infrastructure in Tourism, from the Ministry of Tourism.

Carlos Henrique has spent the last few years alongside opponents and tormentors of the PT, advising Eduardo Cunha (PTB) and acting in various offices in the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government.

The portfolio is headed by Daniela Carneiro (União Brasil), a minister who provoked wear and tear in the government during the first days of the new administration due to her political connection with militiamen, as revealed by the Sheet.

The nomination was signed by the head of the Civil House, PT Rui Costa. The minister was contacted, but did not explain the indication. When contacted, Carlos Henrique Menezes Sobral did not comment.

The Ministry of Tourism reported in a note that “Secretary Carlos Henrique Menezes Sobral has the technical capacity to occupy the position, having even worked in the Pasta”. The ministry also adds that the new secretary should play an “important role in the development of projects due to his work with the National Congress”.

Carlos Henrique Menezes Sobral is appointed as a cadre of the MDB, sponsored by the former Minister of National Integration Geddel Vieira Lima. He was also a special advisor to former President of the Chamber of Deputies Eduardo Cunha (former MDB) since he was the leader of the party in the House.

Cunha became Dilma Rousseff’s main foe when she carried out the impeachment process against the former president. In this beginning of the government, Dilma has been applauded at the inauguration ceremonies of ministers and events at the Planalto Palace. Lula and other petistas treat her deposition as a coup.

The now secretary of the Ministry of Tourism has also spent the last four years in several important positions in the Bolsonaro administration, even being quoted to become a minister.

In the Ministry of Citizenship, for example, under Osmar Terra (MDB) and later with Onyx Lorenzoni (PL), he was parliamentary and federative director of the Executive Secretariat. He arrived in this folder to be appointed to the Sesc board.

Afterwards, he was special advisor to Minister Marcelo Queiroga (Health), at a time when PT members criticized the government for the slowness in vaccination against Covid-19.

Carlos Henrique Menezes Sobral was finally appointed executive secretary of the Government Secretariat, meaning number 2 in the portfolio then commanded by Flávia Arruda. During a moment of frying the minister, he was quoted to replace her.

He remained in office until the Bolsonaro government’s lights out, having his exoneration published on December 30, 2022.
