The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, delivered this Thursday morning (26) to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva a set of proposals with the alleged objective of curbing acts of aggression against institutions, such as what happened on the 8th, in Brasilia, in the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the three Powers. It will be up to the president and his closest assistants to analyze the content of the bills before approving them and sending them to vote in Congress.

Called by the government itself the “democracy package”, it should include a proposal to oblige social networks to monitor and remove, in a more effective and comprehensive way, posts that may represent threats to the State; toughen penalties for organizers and financiers of attacks against institutions; regulate public safety in the Federal District; and even create a national guard to protect Praça dos Três Poderes.

Although the text has not yet been released, parliamentarians who are opposed to Lula and the PT fear widespread censorship on networks of criticism of the government and the president. There is a risk that, in order to avoid fines, platforms start to remove, before judicial decisions, any content that displeases the party, under the pretext of representing supposed threats.
