President predicts new confrontation between PT and PL in next year’s election
For President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), the 2024 municipal elections will once again be a clash between him and former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“This election, I don’t know if it will be municipalized, stateized or nationalized. I honestly think that, in this election, a phenomenon will happen: it will be Lula and Bolsonaro once again contesting these elections in the municipality”, he states. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In his speech, during the PT 2024 Electoral Conference, held in Brasília, Lula said that PT members will not be able to be afraid. “You can’t accept provocation, you can’t be scared, you can’t be ashamed, you can’t stick your tail between your legs.”
The president then made a comparison with a dog that barks at someone. “We don’t lower our heads. We bark at him too so he gets scared of us.”
Lula and Bolsonaro competed in the 2022 presidential election, won by the PT member in a campaign of exchanging provocations between the two.
“We will have to show that we want to exercise democracy,” said Lula, asking the party to hold the most competitive election possible. “But we won’t be afraid of anyone. The only fear we have is of betraying the hope, the expectation that the Brazilian people have in the PT, in our allies”.
