Triathlete Luisa Baptista, 29, was transferred to the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of USP via air transport on Sunday night (24).

Champion at the Pan-American Games in Lima in 2019, Luisa was hit by a motorcycle while cycling along the Abel Terrugi municipal highway (SCA-329), on Saturday.

According to a new medical bulletin released by Santa Casa de São Carlos in the early hours of this Monday (25), the athlete had an “important improvement” in her condition after undergoing extracorporeal circulation therapy. The equipment was taken to São Carlos by the HC team.

The hospital reported that Luisa is in the ICU of the complex’s Central Institute, in São Paulo, and did not provide further details about the athlete’s health status until the publication of this text.

On Sunday, what required the most attention were coagulation and the lung, according to Santa Casa.

The triathlete, who defends Sesi-SP, was admitted to the São Carlos hospital with severe multiple trauma, with injuries to her right lung, and fractures in several arches on her back and right leg.

According to the Civil Police, the man who ran over Luisa did not have a driver’s license, and the motorcycle was seized. The incident report was recorded as culpable bodily injury. The highway is emptied and is usually used for training.

The triathlete was champion in the individual and mixed category at the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, in 2019. She was the first Brazilian woman to win the title in triathlon.

Luisa also won silver (2018) and bronze (2017) in two stages of the triathlon World Cup and represented Brazil at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
