The Infrastructure Commission (CI) of the Senate will discuss the possibility of environmental licensing for Petrobras to explore gas and oil on the coast of Amapá. The public hearing is scheduled for 9 am on Tuesday (12).
The request is from Senator Lucas Barreto (PSD-AP), who defends more clarity about the real economic, ideological or political interests that have prevented permission. For the parliamentarian, the great potential of the geological reserves of oil and gas in Foz do Amazonas (Amapá, Pará and Maranhão) constitute the right of each of the citizens of these federative entities to achieve a minimum of social well-being.
The Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, was invited to the debate, but has not yet confirmed her attendance.
The participation of the minister, argues Barrett, it will be opportune for both the federal government and the senators to clarify all questions, doubts and information on the subject.
“Oil has to fulfill its social function. For over 60 years, Petrobras has been exploring for oil and gas on the northeastern coast, and it has never harmed a single biological collection of corals. We need to clarify why the pre-salt at Foz do Amazonas, where there are no living corals, is the only platform vetoed by Ibama”says the senator in the justification of the request.
