Lucas Barreto criticizes the work of NGOs in the Amazon and says that zero deforestation is a ‘fallacy’ – News of Brazil

the senator Lucas Barreto (PSD-AP) stated, in a statement on Tuesday (15), that Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that operate in the Amazon preach a “false assertion that the planet is melting and that deforestation needs to be zero”. The parliamentarian said that this catchphrase is a “fallacy”, since “no car or thermoelectric plant stops working in the countries of the Northern Hemisphere”. The information is from the Senate Agency.
Lucas Barreto also highlighted the Amazon Summit, an event that took place in Belém on August 8. According to the senator, the only participant who “spoke the truth” during the meeting was President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
“Like a Don Quixote, Lula has been demanding the default sponsored by the rich countries, which have not paid their promises to send billions of dollars to the Pan-Amazonian countries, these rich nations being the true protagonists of this controversial global warming. President Lula embodied the character of Miguel de Cervantes, demanding billions of dollars from rich heating nations. And I have not seen any NGO or any famous person on stage or on the catwalk demanding the false promises of rich nations since ECO 92, in Rio de Janeiro”.
For Lucas Barreto, the greatest tragedy on the planet is not the increase in temperature, but the death of millions of children and elderly people due to malnutrition and lack of basic health care. According to the senator, there is “minimum concern” on the part of NGOs from rich nations in seeking means and investments to achieve the social well-being of nearly 0.5 billion people who live below the poverty line on five continents.
