Low cost airline arrives in São Paulo; see prices – 08/29/2023 – Market

Starting at the end of September, the Brazilian airline market will gain a company that promises to sell tickets at almost half the price. Arajet will operate three times a week flights from São Paulo to Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic – a common stopover on flights to North American countries.
The company was founded in September last year and operates in 22 countries. “By the end of this year, we will be operating in 22 destinations in 15 different countries, enabling 138 connections”, says the company’s CEO, Victor Pacheco.
Upon disembarking, passengers can take a bus to Punta Cana, offered by the company, or travel to other countries. Arajet also operates in Canada and Mexico. The flights will be operated on aircraft of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 model, with 189 seats.
The flights will depart from Guarulhos on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and will cost, on average, US$ 475 (R$ 2,315) round trip. The stretch from September 22nd to 28th, for example, costs US$ 653 (R$ 3,183), with fees and taxes included. The ticket includes hand luggage of up to 10 kg – to check in larger bags, it is necessary to pay an extra US$ 55, each way.
In comparison, a Gol ticket to the same destination and on the same dates costs BRL 4,556.
“With Arajet, traveling across the Americas will be much more affordable. I’ll give you an example of this: the markets we operated before sold flights for US$ 400; now they sell for US$ 275. $175 dollars,” says Pacheco.
But, like every low cost company, there are extra costs. Passengers will need, for example, to buy snacks sold by flight attendants – albeit at affordable prices, according to the company. A glass of water, for example, will cost you $2.
“The most important thing for us is what our passengers feel when they get on the plane, from the flight attendant to the music they listen to. On our menu, for example, we have Dominican beer”, says Manuel Luna, vice president of communications for airline.
According to Arajet, 60% of Brazilians who have already purchased tickets from the company will travel to Canada or Mexico and 40% will stay in the Dominican Republic itself.
