Scouts take part in an ecological adventure in the Amazon rainforest

Manaus (AM) – More than 40 Scouts from the senior branches, aged between 15 and 17, participated this last weekend (Aug 25, 26 and 27) in a fun-filled adventure in the midst of the exuberance of the Amazon rainforest. The camp entitled Festa das Tribos was promoted by the Scouts of Brazil in the Amazon Region and took place at the Ecoforest theme park, located on BR-174 Km 923 (former Km 39).

The camp had several radical activities such as: abseiling, hiking through native forest trails, canoeing, swimming, climbing wall, crossing a suspension bridge, camping in the middle of the forest and the traditional festival of the tribes with dance and indigenous rituals. .

The meeting brought together four Scout groups from Manaus, including the groups: Padre Liberman, Israel, Benjamin Constant and Dom Bosco and had the participation of 20 Scouts (volunteer adults from the Scout movement) who took turns in various support teams, first aid, guides and guides.

The event is another edition of ARSeGuias 2023 (Regional Camp for Seniors and Guides) that takes place every four years, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, since 2017 no edition of the meeting has been held.

According to the president of the Scout Region of Amazonas, Mayko Haddad, the camp aims to develop the protagonism of young people aged 15 to 17 years in the preservation of the environment, focusing on the spirit of companionship and the teachings of independence of boys and girls – “It was a great activity, this branch aims to awaken the adventurous spirit that we are challenged. We are a movement that has a great role in society, contributing to a better, fairer and more fraternal world. All of this was possible thanks to our volunteer adults, all duly prepared to pass on knowledge to young people and rescue this essence of Scouting through the Scout method.”

About the Scout movement

“Scouting is an educational, voluntary and non-profit movement, in which young people have the opportunity to develop socially in a way based on values, respect, friendship, fraternity and love for nature.

The movement was idealized by the English lord Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, in 1907. It all started when Baden-Powell organized a camp with twenty boys, in which he taught concepts of first aid, observation, safety and guidance to young people. Due to the good result of the camp, Baden-Powell decided to write a book: Scouting for Boys, published in 1908. The Englishman’s ideas were very well received. The movement quickly spread to several countries around the world.

In Scouting, young people have the opportunity to socialize in a disciplined way, based on values ​​and in the midst of nature. In this way, the Scout develops physically, through outdoor games, exercises, etc.; morally, since one of the aims of Scouting is to develop sound character in Scouts; and intellectual, since specific knowledge of each stage of the activities is passed on.

The Scouting motto is “Be Prepared” (be prepared), however in Brazil the same has been adapted to “Sempre Alerta”. This means that the Scout must be prepared mentally, always remembering his values, and physically, becoming active, strong and capable of doing whatever is required. Scouts are divided into age groups. In Brazil, the following division usually occurs: Little Wolf (7 to 10 years old), Scout (11 to 14 years old), Senior (15 to 17 years old) and Pioneiro (18 to 21 years old).”
