Lira warns government allies that Lula’s agenda will be blocked until a change in articulation – 06/01/2023 – Politics

The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), warned interlocutors from the Planalto Palace that he will not list projects of interest to President Lula (PT) until the deputies assess that the government has adjusted the political articulation and the relationship with the Home.

The message was passed, according to Lira’s allies, to the leader of the government in the Chamber, José Guimarães (PT-CE), responsible for the dialogue between the Planalto Palace and the deputies.

With that, Lira and leaders of the centrão adopted a stance to continue pressuring the Planalto Palace to seek quick solutions to meet requests from the Chamber, such as the release of amendments, appointments to positions and also for more space in the government, and may even set up a ministerial reform.

Lira’s decision is part of the agreement sewn with party leaders to avoid the overthrow of the MP (provisional measure) of the Esplanada, which would be Lula’s biggest defeat in government.

Priority projects of the government, such as the proposal with rules for the proclamation of the results of judgments of the CARF (Administrative Council of Tax Appeals), which judges billionaire disputes between companies and the Union on the payment of taxes, must be paralyzed in the Chamber.

The MP (provisional measure) that recreates Minha Casa, Minha Vida is also on the waiting list.

Lira’s allies say they intend to use this lock on government projects as a way to also pressure the Senate to vote on text already approved in the Chamber and that they encounter resistance from senators, such as the overthrow of decrees with changes in rules in the Sanitation Framework.

Despite blocking the government’s agenda, Lira told parliamentarians close to her that the tax reform will not have its calendar affected.

The idea of ​​​​the president of the Chamber and the government is to vote on the proposal in the Chamber later this semester.

The Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday (31) the MP that restructures the government and avoided President Lula’s (PT) biggest defeat in Parliament so far.

By 337 votes to 125 against (and one abstention), the plenary approved the text that expands the number of ministries to 37. The measure still needs to be approved by the Senate this Thursday (1st) in order not to lose validity.

After the vote, Lira declared early this Thursday (1st) that despite the approval of the provisional measure that restructures the Esplanada dos Ministérios, the government is far from celebrating having a base, and will have to walk with its own legs.

“The Chamber, the leaders of independent parties, which are not in the base, recognized the need to give the government one more opportunity, therefore, we are still far from celebrating a base, as some try to pass”, he said.

“From now on, the government will have to walk with its legs. There will no longer be any kind of sacrifice,” stated the president of the Chamber.
