Lira says that secret ballot in the STF overshadows the principle of transparency

When talking to journalists at the end of this Tuesday afternoon (5), the mayor, deputy Arthur Lira (PP-AL), said that Lula’s (PT) suggestion that the votes of the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court ( STF) are secret overshadows the principle of transparency.
Lira did not want to deepen the criticism of President Lula, but highlighted contrary positions of jurists and former ministers.
“It’s difficult to assess the position of other people without having talked to them. What we are seeing is a firm position from many jurists, including former ministers […] You already have a Supreme Court with a lot of visibility, now are you going to have it with a lot of visibility without knowing how they are voting? The principle of transparency that is so demanded in the television of decisions will be overshadowed. But far be it from me to know what are the reasons that were treated to give a statement like that”, said the parliamentarian.
During this Tuesday’s weekly live (5), Lula defended that the votes of Supreme Ministers become confidential to avoid “animosities”. Shortly afterwards, the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, added to Lula’s speech and defended the possibility of restricting access to the votes of magistrates.
The speech did not reverberate well in the National Congress and right-wing and center-right lawmakers criticized Lula’s position, precisely at a time when the PT needs to get closer to congressmen to be able to build a support base.
Former Supreme Ministers Marco Aurélio Mello and Celso de Mello also criticized Lula’s speech.
Marco Aurélio, who was responsible for creating TV Justiça, called the declaration an “inconceivable burst of rhetoric”. Former Minister Celso de Mello said that “the statutes of power in a republic founded on democratic foundations cannot privilege mystery”.
